The Triad Swimming Foundation receives oversight and direction from a Board of Directors made up of a cross section of members from across the Triad and with diverse interest in the community and the sport of swimming.  The board members' backgrounds and contact information are listed below:


Chairman
 

Gary Bishop Flynn lives in Greensboro with his wife Crystal and three children, Shelby, Coleman and Cooper.  He is a native of the Triad and has been involved in the swimming community for over 10 years.

Gary currently serves as VP / City Meet Director for the Community Swim Assoc. of Greensboro, one of the largest and oldest community swimming associations in the United States.

He has a history of  serving the community with past board service with Greensboro Youth Baseball, Inc., Young Life of Greensboro, and Grace Community Church.

Gary is a Unites States Swimming-Certified Referee and has been employed with Avery Dennison Corporation for 34 years.

Vice Chairman

Terry L. Jones lives in Greensboro with his wife Jill and their two daughters, Copeland and Ellie, and grew up in the Piedmont Triad.

Terry received his degree in Political Science from Wake Forest in 1991 and is the current Director of Development and Special Projects for the Wyndham Championship.

Previous to his current position, Terry served as the VP of Member Development with the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce & Greensboro Partnership.

Terry’s family attends West Market United Methodist Church where he is Vice Chair of the Administrative Board, active in the Lay Leadership Committee and was the 2006 Stewardship Chair.

He has also worked with the Greensboro Sports Council/Commission, the Tournament Host Committee and been involved in coaching Youth Softball & Basketball.

Secretary/Treasurer

Walter S. Gordon (Stewart) lives in Winston Salem with his wife Anne and their daughter Emma Claire.  Stewart was raised in Laurinburg, NC and then attended Elon University where he received his degree in Political Science in 1993.

Currently, Stewart is the owner of the Green Drake (Orvis Fly-Fishing Dealer) in Winston Salem.  He started that business in April of 2000.

Stewart also serves on the board of the North Carolina Wildlife Habitat Foundation and has since 1998.

Stewart and his family attend First Presbyterian Church of Winston Salem.

Executive Director

James M. Dodson, IV (Jay) lives in Jamestown with his wife Lori and their three children Morgan, Drew and Luke.  Jay is a native of the Piedmont Triad and graduated from Elon University with a degree in Business Administration and Economics.  Jay also received his Masters in Middle Grades Education from UNC-G in 2002.

Jay is currently the Head Coach of STAR Aquatics, a USA Swimming program which he founded in 2002.  Since its inception, STAR has grown from 50 swimmers at one location to almost 700 swimmers at 6 locations.

Jay and his family are active members of Christ United Methodist Church in Greensboro.  He volunteers helping special needs children learn to swim and focusing on programs that will help provide aquatics programs to less fortunate youth.
